Support for National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Applicants

The Office of Research and Innovation provided proposal review opportunities for Rutgers–New Brunswick faculty who are submitting an NSF Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) application for the August 11, 2020 deadline.

Facilitated Peer Review Workshops

graphic of people sitting around a tableWe hosted small-scale virtual NSF CAREER peer review workshops for proposal development during the week of June 8. View our PDF flyer.

The goal of these workshops was to support Rutgers–New Brunswick faculty submitting an NSF CAREER proposal for the July 2020 deadline, while also helping to build connections between early-career faculty. Workshops were facilitated by Rutgers faculty who are previous NSF CAREER awardees.

We offered the following one-time workshops.

Monday, June 8, 1–5 p.m.: Biological Sciences

Related NSF divisions include:

  • Environmental Biology (DEB)
  • Biological Infrastructure (DBI)
  • Integrative Organismal Systems (IOS)
  • Molecular & Cellular Biosciences (MCB)

  • Chemical, Bioengineering, Environmental, and Transport Systems (CBET)
  • Civil, Mechanical & Manufacturing Innovation (CMMI)

Workshop Registration Guidelines

  • Groups were kept small to maximize time and feedback for each participant.
  • Participants selected the one research area that is the best match for his or her project.

Workshop Overview

  • Each session lasted for 3.5–4 hours, conducted on a virtual platform; and participants submitted a draft of both their project summary and the project description for peer review.
  • All participants were expected to review and be prepared to provide verbal comments on their peers' drafts at the workshop.
    • Participants' drafts were shared with their fellow participants and the workshop facilitator through a secured folder well in advance of the workshop date.
